What if I have children?
Most locations are very suitable for candidates with families and it is becoming ever more popular to take your children with you. If your children are pre-school age, then this is the perfect time to work overseas. The challenge often comes when you start enquiring about schooling. As per comments above, companies do not often give salary allowances for schooling which means, as there is no government funded schooling available in many international locations, the cost of schooling will have to come out of your normal salary package – private international schools can be very expensive.
Clients can also perceive this in a negative manner. The more children you have, the harder it can be to get an overseas job. In addition, availability of schooling can be in short supply. For example, recently in Dubai, there was a nine month waiting list for school places, but there are now new schools so availability is fine, but for a while, it was impossible for a candidate with children to come to Dubai for this reason, not the availability of jobs.
Some locations also do not have British education available, particularly at A Level. In countries such as Australia and Canada, if you gain residency there, then there is state run education that your children will be able to participate in. However there is likely to be a cost for University education if this is applicable to you.
